Kenaz (ᚲ)
Leela Atlas team · Updated
The torch: light of understanding.
Literal meaning: torch (Norse: ulcer) · Freyr's aett, the first group of eight
In the old rune poems
The Old English poem knows a torch by its bright flame, burning where nobles rest indoors. The Norse poems give another word, an ulcer or sore.
Light side
Understanding dawns: a skill, an insight, a creative spark that lets you see clearly what was dark.
Shadow side
The flame can also burn: knowledge used to wound, or an old sore you keep reopening instead of tending it.
Drawing Kenaz in a game of Leela
In Leela Atlas you can draw a card from the Elder Futhark runes when you land on a square. A bridging question links the card to the square, so the card speaks to your own question:
- If you held a torch over your question, what would become visible?
- What does "Kenaz" show you about your square?
- If "Kenaz" were advice for your question, what would it say?
- Where do you meet "Kenaz" in your life right now?
