Gebo (ᚷ)
Leela Atlas team · Updated
Gift and exchange.
Literal meaning: gift · Freyr's aett, the first group of eight
In the old rune poems
Only the Old English poem keeps this rune: generosity brings honour and support, and for the destitute it is a livelihood.
Light side
A balanced exchange: giving and receiving freely, a bond where both sides are enriched and neither keeps score.
Shadow side
A gift that creates debt, or the inability to accept what is offered, unbalances the relationship.
Drawing Gebo in a game of Leela
In Leela Atlas you can draw a card from the Elder Futhark runes when you land on a square. A bridging question links the card to the square, so the card speaks to your own question:
- In your question, what are you giving, what are you receiving, and is it in balance?
- What does "Gebo" show you about your square?
- If "Gebo" were advice for your question, what would it say?
- Where do you meet "Gebo" in your life right now?
