Algiz (ᛉ)
Leela Atlas team · Updated
Protection and a link to the higher.
Literal meaning: elk (Old English: elk-sedge) · Hagal's aett, the second group of eight
In the old rune poems
The Old English poem tells of elk-sedge growing in the marsh, which wounds and burns the hand of anyone who tries to seize it.
Light side
Healthy protection: knowing your boundaries, staying alert, and feeling connected to something larger that shelters you.
Shadow side
Defending yourself against everything, so that nothing can wound you but nothing can reach you either.
Drawing Algiz in a game of Leela
In Leela Atlas you can draw a card from the Elder Futhark runes when you land on a square. A bridging question links the card to the square, so the card speaks to your own question:
- What in your question truly needs protecting, and from what?
- What does "Algiz" show you about your square?
- If "Algiz" were advice for your question, what would it say?
- Where do you meet "Algiz" in your life right now?
