Small Excess 小過 Xiǎo Guò

Attend to small things with care; this is not the time for great leaps.

Trigrams: Thunder over Mountain

The judgement

Small things can be done, not great ones. Like a bird that should not fly too high, stay low, modest and careful.

The image

Thunder sounds over the mountain, close and contained. The noble one leans a little more toward reverence, grief and thrift than usual.

Light side

Attention to small details now can protect and steady you.

Shadow side

Aiming too high at this time risks a painful fall.

Drawing Small Excess in a game of Leela

In Leela Atlas you can draw a card from the I Ching when you land on a square. A bridging question links the card to the square, so the card speaks to your own question:

• What small, careful action would fit this moment better than a grand one?
• What does "Small Excess" show you about your square?
• If "Small Excess" were advice for your question, what would it say?
• Where do you meet "Small Excess" in your life right now?
