Othala (ᛟ)

Heritage and home.

Literal meaning: ancestral land, inherited home · Tyr's aett, the third group of eight

In the old rune poems

The Old English poem calls the inherited estate very dear to everyone who may enjoy in his own house what is right and proper, in prosperity.

Light side

Belonging and inheritance: knowing where you come from, what you carry from your family, and what home means to you.

Shadow side

Being bound by old family patterns, or cut off from your roots with nowhere to return.

Drawing Othala in a game of Leela

In Leela Atlas you can draw a card from the Elder Futhark runes when you land on a square. A bridging question links the card to the square, so the card speaks to your own question:

• What have you inherited, from family or past, that plays a part in your question?
• What does "Othala" show you about your square?
• If "Othala" were advice for your question, what would it say?
• Where do you meet "Othala" in your life right now?
