Standstill 否 Pǐ

When paths are blocked, stay true to yourself and wait it out.

Trigrams: Heaven over Earth

The judgement

Heaven and earth do not meet; the great departs and the small arrives. The times do not favour the efforts of the noble one, so integrity matters more than gain.

The image

Heaven and earth turn away from each other. The noble one draws back into inner worth and declines honours that would compromise them.

Light side

Stagnation gives you space to protect your values and wait for a better season.

Shadow side

Forcing progress in a closed time, or trading principles for comfort, deepens the block.

Drawing Standstill in a game of Leela

In Leela Atlas you can draw a card from the I Ching when you land on a square. A bridging question links the card to the square, so the card speaks to your own question:

• What are you being asked to protect while the door is closed?
• What does "Standstill" show you about your square?
• If "Standstill" were advice for your question, what would it say?
• Where do you meet "Standstill" in your life right now?
