Development 漸 Jiàn

Lasting progress unfolds gradually; let things grow at their own pace.

Trigrams: Wind over Mountain

The judgement

Development proceeds gradually, like a bride who follows every step of the custom. Patience and steadiness bring good fortune.

The image

A tree grows slowly on a mountain, rooted and visible from afar. The noble one dwells in dignity and goodness, and gradually improves the ways of those around.

Light side

Slow, steady growth builds something that lasts and earns real respect.

Shadow side

Impatience to skip steps can undo what has been carefully built.

Drawing Development in a game of Leela

In Leela Atlas you can draw a card from the I Ching when you land on a square. A bridging question links the card to the square, so the card speaks to your own question:

• What step in this process deserves your patience right now?
• What does "Development" show you about your square?
• If "Development" were advice for your question, what would it say?
• Where do you meet "Development" in your life right now?
